The 29 Best Anime Waifus Of All Time

Waifus are fictional female characters in Anime/Cartoon/Video-game franchises that one has affection and even sexual attraction for.

Several different meanings can and do apply to waifu, appropriately pronounced “why-foo.”.

As a matter of convenience, this definition is widely accepted by all Otaku/Anime fans. It is simply a term used to describe an imaginary (video game, anime, and manga) character that you aspire to be your significant other.

What Is A Waifu?

Waifu is a term used to describe female anime, manga, or video game characters affectionately.

Several misconceptions surround the subject of Waifus. The stories mostly concern its origins, but sometimes they also revolve around its culture, the Waifu meaning, and Japan’s cultural influences.

Even though it is commonly known that the term Waifu originates from Japan, its origins within the Japanese culture are frequently misreported.

The Origin Of The Word Waifu

The word Waifu was first used in an anime series called Azumanga Daioh, Episode 15 in 2002.

A character, when prompted by the side characters, chooses a picture of a female and asks Mr. Kimura about who she is and responds, “My wife.”

The same term is now romanticized into the Japanese syllabary (Hiragana/Katakana) as ‘Mai waifu’.

As a result of the Japanese tendency to add vowels to English words, the term became popular among English Otakus after 2006.

As opposed to the word ‘waifu’, the term ‘tsuma’ is used for the actual wife of a man. They would never use the term ‘waifu’ for their actual wife.

Anime: Re: ZERO

It was impossible to leave Rem off this list of waifus! Rem is easily one of the best waifus out there!

Rem may appear sweet and polite on the surface, but she often acts without thinking.

Rem is sometimes oblivious to her actions and speaks in a superficially polite manner. Respect is both her prerogative and her guilt for the incident she had with her sister in the past.

The difference between Rem and Ram is that Rem doesn’t hide her emotions. Her personality is that of an older sister who is strong and capable on the outside. She tends to keep her emotions under wraps. The character of Rem seems far more emotional than Ram, although she doesn’t seem like the type.

She falls in love with Subaru as a result of Subaru saving her life and supports him at all times.

Rem, like her sister, is a magic user who has healing abilities, and in her Oni state, she can be rather fierce.

In addition to her Morningstar that aids her in distance combat, she carries a weapon for close combat, too.

Kono Subarashii

Anime: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! / Konosuba

The woman is obsessed with using explosive magic to a point that she uses all of her strength in one particular attack.

With her natural talents, Megumin is a better player on Kazuma’s team than anyone else.

A tsundere girl, she is very kind and caring with beautiful brown hair and amber eyes, and has a very pretty face.

Makise Kurisu

Makise Kurisu

Anime: Steins; Gate

She was envied by those around her for skipping a grade when she was a girl in America and developed a strong character because of it. Her stern expression always avoids showing weakness to others.

Her curiosity makes her eager to investigate things. In some cases, she holds views different from others. For example, “It is more important to gain experimental data than to gain privacy”.

She’s definitely a tsundere.

It’s not that she has some special magic or power, but just that she’s a very believable, clever, kind, and lovable character.

However, Aqua’s actions or words are always based on her whims, regardless of whether she forces them on others. In many situations, she will act inappropriately as a consequence.

In addition, taunting Aqua or luring her with praise is not difficult. In addition to her desire for praise and worship points, Aqua performs good deeds but immediately ruins all her own merits by being aggressively and persistently seeking praises.

Aqua’s honesty is one of her biggest assets. She is incapable of lying, or more accurately, she has no concept of lying, and she is so bad at it that her lies are easily discovered.
